A chain of high-end boutique hotels with locations in Portland, Seattle, Palm Springs, New Orleans, Boston, and other American cities is facing increased consumer scrutiny for one reason and one reason only.
“Anyone who cares about America should not do any business or stay at any of Gordon Sondland’s hotels,” U.S. Representative Earl Blumenauer said. “Not until he fulfills his duty as a citizen to testify and turn over all relevant documents to the House of Representatives.
Who Is This Guy?
Gordon Sondland is the current U.S. ambassador to the European Union. He is also the founder and owner of Provenance Hotels, a descendent of Europen Jews who fled the Holocaust, and the provider of one million dollars to Donald J. Trump’s campaign.
Sadly for Sondland, his hotels, and the U.S. Constitution, he defied a Congressional subpoena this week.
And now the war of political words continues…
Jim McDermott, a Portland lawyer representing Sondland, said, “Congressman Blumenauer’s irresponsible attempt to hurt a homegrown business that supports hundreds of jobs in our local economy is just shameful and ought to outrage all Oregonians.”
When In Doubt, There’s Always Objectivism
Sondland is married to Katherine Durant, who is the founder and managing partner of Atlas/RTG, a holding company with a portfolio of shopping centers throughout Oregon.
In January 2018, Sondland and Durant were featured as the “January Power Couple” in Oregon Business magazine. The article points out that Sondland gave his wife a first printing, first edition of Ayn Rand’s famous novel Atlas Shrugged, signed by the author.
The book depicts a dystopian United States in which private businesses suffer under increasingly burdensome laws and regulations. Fictional railroad executive Dagny Taggart and her lover, steel magnate Hank Rearden, struggle against “looters” who want to exploit their productivity.
