The Y played an integral role in my upbringing. I learned to swim at the Y, attended Y camps, played on Y baseball teams, and more. Apparently, actor Ethan Hawke had a similar experience.
“One of the things I love about the Y…you learn how to play with other people,” Hawke says. Yes! Learning to play well with others is one of life’s fundamental skills.
“We were seeing an increase in bullying and an increase in intolerance of new and different people. We were seeing an increase in social isolation, especially for seniors, Y-USA senior vice president and chief marketing officer Valerie Barker Waller told Adweek. “We’re an organization focused on making sure everyone feels like they’ve got a place and a voice, and we’re doing real work in communities to ensure that happens.”
