Photojournalism is a beautiful documentary art and a much-needed pursuit in today’s mixed up world of lies and propaganda.
Thankfully, The New York Times employs some of the world’s best photojournalists.
The newspaper’s ad agency, Droga5, wisely saw this truth and placed it at the center of this Cannes Lion-winning ad campaign.
The combination of the photojournalist’s voiceover with their images reveals the raw power of their stories.
The listener can hear how deeply involved—emotionally and intellectually—these journalists are in their work. They want to get the story right every time, and when the story is life and death, as it often is, there can be no dispassionate reporting. The subjects don’t call for light treatments.
Taken as a whole, this ad campaign helps one feel the obligation these professionals carry in their hearts. As a paying subscriber, I’m already a big believer in the Times’ product. Now, this effort by Droga5 helps me to love the paper even more than I already do.
