According to USA Today, online purchases are creating a surplus of activity for package carriers like Memphis-based FedEx.
FedEx handled a record 9.8 million packages Monday as shoppers sought to get their Christmas presents delivered on time.
The number of packages shipped Monday was 63% more than FedEx handles on a normal day and was up 10% from the same day a year ago.
“This is a big, big day,” says Matthew Thornton, senior vice president of U.S. operations at FedEx.
