Yo, whassup? Have you seen Budweiser UK’s new remix of the famous “Whassup?” spot from the late 1990s? In the following video, Seattle copywriter Dan Goldgeier and I discuss its merits, as well as the plusses and minuses of two other spots—one from Coors Light and the other from Etsy.com.
Earlier this week, I wrote about how this is Etsy’s moment, and I asked:
What will you find on Etsy?
What joys will you provide to yourself and others?
The Little Old Lady Who Could (Down a Sixer)
Dan mentions at the 7:44 point in the video how Coors Light’s new spot was derived from a real-life incident that made the news.
93-year old Olive Veronesi from Seminole, PA made a sign that said, “I Need More Beer!!” to show her neighbors and her daughter who help bring her groceries.

The local beer distributor surprised Veronesi with a special delivery of more beer. Veronesi then made a new sign that said, “Got More Beer.”
Coors Light is now spreading the beer joy around by asking people to go to Twitter and let them know who exactly #CouldUseABeer. The brand will then buy them a six-pack. *Beer purchase required.
