When I grew up, gun violence had yet to rear its ugly head in our schools. Frankly, I can not imagine how scared American kids are to go to school today, to say nothing of the fears of their parents.
As the two-year anniversary of the Newtown tragedy on December 14th approaches, Moms Demand Action is ramping up efforts to strengthen membership and raise awareness about the reality of gun violence in schools.
This week the non-profit advocacy group launched a TV advertisement care of Grey/Toronto that depicts the frightening new reality of the “lockdown” culture in American classrooms.
How can you watch this spot and not be disgusted by the state of affairs in this nation? We allow the gun lobby to endanger our kids, our neighbors, our students, and anyone else who happens to be in the way of a machine gun-toting mad man.
The Founding Fathers did not plan for this rampant sickness in our midst. Their intention was to make sure local militias could arm themselves against an oppressive government. The idea that Americans are entitled to guns as an individual right is nonsense. Read The Constitution.
Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
We are entitled to form a militia. How much clearer could it be?
